ASUS Unveils New Range of Gaming Weaponry at CES 2021
ASUS announced a wide range of notebook computers and gaming peripherals at CES 2021. ASUS hosted two different CES conferences, one for the ROG series and the other for the company’s other series.
ASUS ROG introduced the ROG Flow X13 gaming notebook with the XG Mobile GPU, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE dual-screen gaming notebook, the Strix SCAR 17 gaming notebook, the ROG Swift PG32UQ 32-inch 4K 144Hz gaming monitor, the ROG Claymore II with keyboard and the ROG Gladius III wireless gaming mouse.
ROG Current X13
The ASUS ROG Flow X13 is an ultraportable 13-inch gaming notebook with an AMD processor and NVIDIA GPU. The notebook can be configured with an AMD Ryzen 9.5980HS mobile processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 mobile GPU. The Flow X13 features a flip design where the screen can be rotated 360 degrees to allow for more usage scenarios.
The laptop is equipped with a 120 Hz FHD panel or a 60 Hz 4K panel, both protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The Flow 13 has excellent battery life and can play for up to 10 hours on a full charge.
The most interesting feature of the ROG Flow X13 is that it can be paired with the XG Mobile, an external GPU with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card. XG mobile’s own eGPU port allocates 63 Gbps of bandwidth exclusively for graphics applications. The external GPU device also features a dedicated USB 3.2 Gen 2 port that powers an I/O hub with additional connectivity, and a built-in 280W power supply that powers both the XG Mobile and the notebook.
ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE
The ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE is a 15-inch gaming notebook that also comes with the ROG ScreenPad Plus, a second mini screen on the device. ScreenPad Plus rises several degrees when the notebook screen is opened to provide the user with a comfortable viewing angle.
Notebook specs include an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX mobile processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics. In addition, the notebook has two different display options: a 4K display at 120 Hz with 100% Adobe RGB color space coverage or an FHD display at 300 Hz with a 3 ms response time.
The new model features an improved Active Aerodynamic Plus system for better cooling performance. The design features an air intake below the secondary screen to facilitate cooling. It is equipped with new arc fans that increase airflow by 13% over the previous generation.
ASUS has collaborated with several developers to improve the support of the screens. The ROG has also been working with Adobe on additional content creation tools for some of its authoring software.
ROG Strix SCAR 17
The ROG Strix SCAR 17 is the workhorse of a gaming notebook that can be configured with an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX mobile processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics. The new model has a new cooling system that offers better thermal performance.
The SCAR 17 features the world’s fastest laptop display, a 360 Hz FHD panel with a response time of 3 ms. Another display option is also available, a 165Hz WQHD panel with DCI-P3 color space. Both variants are equipped with Adaptive Sync technology.
The laptop is equipped with a 90W battery that can play video for up to 12 hours on a full charge. SCAR 17 has a quad-band design and Dolby Atmos support. The notebook is also equipped with an opto-mechanical backlit keyboard in the form of an RGB key. The trackpad is 85% larger than the previous model.
ROG Swift PG32UQ
The ROG Swift PG32UQ is the world’s first 32-inch gaming display with HDMI 2.1 capabilities and features a 144Hz IPS panel with 1ms response time for moving images. The monitor has two HDMI 2.1 ports that support 4K at 120Hz refresh rate for next generation consoles. The display also features DisplayPort 1.4 for 4K rendering at 144 Hz.
Additionally, the ROG Swift PG32UQ is compatible with G-Sync technology and supports ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB Sync) and ASUS Variable Overdrive. The monitor is also compatible with DisplayHDR 600, supports 160% sRGB and 98% DCI-P3 color space, and is factory pre-calibrated to ensure Delta E < 2 color accuracy. The ROG Swift PG32UQ will be available at the end of the first quarter of 2021.
ROG Claymore II
The ROG Claymore is the first ASUS RGB mechanical keyboard to feature the new ROG RX Blue optical mechanical switches. The switches are designed to have virtually no chatter delay, so the buttons activate immediately when pressed. The keyboard is also available with ROG RX Red switches.
Claymore II supports both wireless and wired connectivity. USB-C wireless connectivity and a 2.4 GHz radio frequency link provide a latency-free connection. The 4000 mAh battery provides up to 40 hours of operation on a full charge. The Claymore II has a magnetic wrist rest and a removable numeric keypad that can be attached to either side of the keyboard at 80% to allow for different play styles and settings.
Wireless Gladius III Horn
The ROG Gladius III is an ergonomic wireless mouse with a resolution of up to 19,000 dpi. The mouse features advanced tri-mode connectivity with wired wireless, 2.4 GHz RF and Bluetooth modes. The exclusive new Push-Fit Switch Socket II supports both traditional Omron 3-pin mechanical microswitches and 5-pin optical microswitches, allowing users to customise and touch buttons at their convenience.
The mouse features a flexible, low-strength ROG Paracord cable and rounded 100% TPFE ROG Omni feet for a smooth glide.
ASUS unveiled additional manufacturing products at Be Ahead at CES 2021. ASUS unveiled a wide range of new notebooks, including the ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED (UX582), ZenBook Duo 14 (UX482), VivoBook S14 (S435), ExpertBook B9 (B9400 vPro), Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5500), Chromebook CX9 (CX9400), BR1100 Education and TUF Dash gaming notebook.
In addition to these laptops, ASUS also introduced the ProArt Display PA148CTV portable projector and the ZenBeam Latte L1.
ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED
The ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo 15 notebook targets the productive segment, powered by the latest generation Intel Core i9 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 notebook GPU. The notebook is also equipped with an optional ScreenPad touchscreen with 4K display.
The notebook has two USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports and the latest Intel WiFi 6 (802.11ax). The notebook is equipped with a 32GB DRR4 RAM and a 1TB PCIe 3.0 X 4 SSD. The laptop’s main display is an OLED HDR 4K with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. The frameless screen design has a 93% screen to body ratio for an immersive viewing experience.
ZenBook Duo 14
The ZenBook Duo 14 is a 14-inch laptop with an additional screen that complements the main FHD NanoEdge screen. The laptop is equipped with the 11th generation Intel Tiger Lake processor. Generation with Intel Iris® Xe graphics or the option of discrete NVIDIA GeForce MX450 graphics.
The ZenBook Duo 14 has 4 USB-C Lightning ports for easy connectivity. They support Power Delivery and DisplayPort connections, and the 40 Gbps bandwidth allows users to connect one 8K external display or two 4K UHD displays.
Vivobook S14
ASUS VivoBook 14 is an ultra-light 14-inch notebook with Intel Evo certification. It runs on an 11th generation Intel Core i7 processor. Generation with Intel Iris Xe graphics and 16 GB memory. The notebook also features Intel Optane H10 memory for a quick start. Weighing just 1.3 kg and with a slim 15.9 mm profile, the ultra-slim VivoBook S14 is designed for optimal portability.
VivoBook 14 comes with 4 USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A and USB 2.0 I/O ports.
Expert book B9
ASUS’ next offering is the ExpertBook B9, which the company calls a next-generation notebook for business travelers due to its light weight and slim design. It’s the world’s lightest 14-inch business laptop with impressive internal features.
The ExpertBook B9 is equipped with the latest 11th generation Intel Tiger Lake processors. The graphics are based on the new powerful Intel Iris Xe graphics. The new processor gives it more processing power and the graphics make it more affordable, while still being able to perform all the tasks you need.
The ExpertBook B9 is equipped with 32GB of LDDR4x RAM at 4266 MHz and for storage, the notebook has two 2TB NVMe SSDs for large storage capacity on the go. The laptop also features Intel WiFi 6 and Thunderbolt 4 for superior connectivity.
Chromebook CX9
ASUS has unveiled the Chromebook CX9 for cloud-based operating systems and collaboration tools. It runs on an 11th generation Intel Core i7 processor. Generation with Intel Iris Xe graphics. The ASUS Chromebook CX9 complies with the US military’s MIL-STD 810H testing standard and features a rugged, ultra-light magnesium alloy chassis that measures 16mm thick and weighs approximately 1kg.
For enterprise-class protection, the ASUS Chromebook CX9 is inherently secure, and Titan-C offers protection for storing sensitive data like passwords and encryption keys. For connectivity, the laptop is equipped with USB-C, USB Type-A and HDMI ports. The ASUS Chromebook CX9 features a fingerprint sensor for password-free login and a webcam display for added security.
ASUS BR1100 for Education
The ASUS BR1100 is a notebook computer for education with a heavy-duty casing that can withstand daily shocks. It is equipped with an Intel Pentium Silver processor, which provides the power to run applications and learning programs smoothly.
A 42-watt battery provides all-day power, and the 4G LTE option offers mobile Internet connectivity for enhanced portability. The notebook is equipped with USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 and USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, an HDMI slot and a microSD card reader.
The laptop can be configured with 16GB of RAM and 128GB of eMMC memory, as well as a 1TB SSD M.2 hard drive.
Chromebook Flip CX5
The Chromebook Flip CX5 is the first 15.6-inch Chromebook Flip with the 11th generation Intel Core processor. It is powered by the third generation Intel Iris Xe graphics cards. This laptop is now compatible with Google Stadia and GeForce, so you can even play in the cloud on this device.
The Chromebook Flip CX5’s 57-watt battery has a life of up to 12 hours. The notebook also offers up to 16GB of storage, up to 512GB of SSD storage and a microSD card slot for expansion.
ProArt Display PA148CTV
The ASUS ProART Display PA148CTV is a 14-inch FHD IPS portable monitor designed for content creation. The display features ASUS Dialing and a virtual control panel to streamline creative workflows with programmable shortcuts and hotkeys.
The PA148CTV offers exceptional color with 100% sRGB and 100% Rec. 709 color spaces. It is controlled and pre-calibrated at the factory by Calman to ensure a color accuracy of Delta E < 2. With a large number of I/O ports such as USB C, HDMI microphone, and tripod connector, the display can be used in a variety of configurations.
ZenBeam Latte L1 Projector
The ZenBeam Latte L1 won the CES 2021 Innovation Award, the Good Design Award 2020 and the Taiwan Excellence Award 2021 for its unique design. The ZenBeam Latte L1 features a convenient remote control and a built-in rechargeable battery that provides up to three hours of portability on a single charge. It produces an image with a light of 300 LEDs and has a projection range of 40 to 120 inches.
