Fix: Google Play services keeps stopping
Like any operating system, Android offers services that are essential but not often encountered. If you notice them, there’s usually something wrong. Google Play services always seem to stop working for many users, usually resulting in performance issues or the inability to update or download applications. Not to mention that most Google applications will not work without this service.
Therefore, we have tried to provide you with solutions that will help you solve this problem in an appropriate way.

How do I solve shutting down Google Play services?
There are several ways to solve this problem. Start by restarting the unit. If the problem occurs again, make sure you delete the data from the Google Play service and the Google Service Framework.
You can also use the APK to reset the version of the Google Play service or, with a little preparation, reset your device to factory settings and start over.
1. Removing data from Google Play services
Let’s start by cleaning up the data stored in your local Google Play services. The data was probably corrupted after a system update. There are other reasons for this, but they mostly apply if you’re using a custom ROM with side-loading gapps. And at this point, we recommend re-flashing Gapps or flashing the ROM after a clean format and then, and only then, installing Gapps.
On the other hand, the cleanup data should help users replace ROMs that have interrupted Google Play services. Learn how to remove data from Google Play services on your smartphone or tablet:
- Open the settings.
- Select Apps and notifications (Apps).
- Develop all applications (Application Manager or Application Management).
- Tap the three-step menu and select View System Processes.
- Open Google Play Services from the list of available applications.
- Click on the share.
- Press Clear all data and confirm the selection.
2. Removing data from the Google services framework
There are more than a few services in the Google system that work together to make your Android experience as smooth and intuitive as possible. The Google services framework, along with Google Play services, is the middle of a series of closed Google services that make Android what it is.
And if something goes wrong with the structure of Google’s services, it could lead to problems with Google Play services. And vice versa. So, just like in the previous step, we’re going to reset the Google Services framework by deleting the data in it.
Learn how to remove data from Google services:
- Open the settings.
- Select Apps and notifications (Apps).
- Develop all applications (Application Manager or Application Management).
- Tap the three-step menu and select View System Processes.
- Open the Google Services framework from the list of available applications.
- Click on the share.
- Press Delete Memory and confirm selection.
3. Remove updates from Google Play services
If the Google Play services continue to fail after the first two steps, there are a few more things you can try. Obviously, you cannot reinstall the Google Play services. It cannot be deleted or undone. However, you can remove the updates and reset the application to its default values.
Once the application is automatically updated, the problem should disappear. For information on removing updates from Google Play, click here :
- Again, go to Settings > Applications > All Applications and select Show System Processes from the three-point menu.
- Search and open Google Play services.
- Tap the three-step menu and select Delete Updates.
- Confirm the selection and restart the device.
4. Updating or removing Google Play services via APK
If the problem persists, you can update or reset the Google Play services with the APK. We’ve written a lot about this, and it’s a legitimate troubleshooting step that applies in many scenarios. For some reason, the current version of the Google Play service may not be compatible or may have a bug that prevents it from working.
You either need to update the application to a newer beta version or revert to the old stable version of Google Play.
Follow these steps to upgrade or downgrade your Google Play service on Android:
- Remove updates for Google Play services.
- Go to the APK Mirror site here, or use another APK aggregator you trust.
- Download APK. We recommend that the KPA is no older than 3 months. You can also get a more recent beta or alpha version. Basically everything except the version you are currently using (the latest stable release).
- Run the APK and allow third-party applications (unknown sources) to be installed on your device when prompted.
- Reboot the device after update/disconnection.
5. Restoring the unit to factory settings
Finally, if none of the above steps fixed this error, we can only recommend resetting the device to factory settings. If you don’t know what exactly a factory reset does, check out this article where we’ve covered all the important points. Honestly, this looks like a serious system problem, and when this happens (important system services start crashing), a factory reset is usually the way to fix it.
Find out how to perform a factory reset on Android here:
- Open the settings.
- Select the system.
- Select Reset settings.
- Press Reset.
- Press Clear All.
- The device will reboot and you will enter the initial setup screen.
- From there, sign in to your Google account and/or OEM account and restore all your backups.
